Russell Martin describes Sir Alex Ferguson’s “incredible” support as “incredible” since taking over as Rangers’ head coach.

The former Manchester United manager, John Greig, and the legendary Rangers legend, made his first appearance on Friday at the club’s Auchenhowie training facility.

Ferguson, 83, spent two seasons at Rangers between 1967 and 1969, while Greig, 82, spent five years as manager before returning to the Ibrox.

When those two discuss this club and what it means to them, any team talk or message I send is done, Martin said on RangersTV.

They both understand what we are doing and how much we are behind us. They want this team to perform well.

They experience the fans’ feelings in the same way. They want to see a team that fights and fights for everything and stands out on the field as an example of what they see this club as.

At Peterborough United, where he was just 21 years old, Martin was captain under Sir Alex Ferguson’s son, Darren Ferguson.

He reached out and said his father wanted to call, Martin continued.

“Once I said, of course,” and Sir Alex has been involved frequently since. He has been fantastic. He has incredibly encouraged me personally, which is amazing.
