I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, Everyone! Shirlie Kemp, the wife of actor Martin Kemp, has opened up about the couple’s radically divergent views on their private lives.

Although Martin and Shirlie Kemp have worked together to make their Victorian home a breathtaking dream home, the former Pepsi and Shirlie vocalist has revealed that the pair frequently argue over how to arrange their personal belongings.

Shirlie, who’s currently Down Under cheering on her husband as he takes part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, has recently spoken candidly about how she and Martin, 64, often find themselves at loggerheads due to her inclination towards being ‘a hoarder’.

The 63-year-old performer admits she still has trouble understanding Spandau Ballet star Martin’s stripped-back style and that because of it, she “feels sorry for him.”

Shirlie explained how her father’s financial situation influenced her outlook during an appearance on the Three Rooms podcast in October.

The mother-of-two remarked, “My dad was eclectic, which is the problem. Both my dad and I are somewhat of a hoarder like their parents, and I believe it was all a subconscious choice.

“I don’t throw things because I keep things because it might have been when I was a child and we didn’t have any money,” I think. “

Then Shirley remarked that her partner’s approach and her own are in stark contrast with one another, despite the fact that he “grew up even poorer than I did.”

She continued, “Martin will throw anything and everything away, despite growing up even poorer than I did. He would reside in a box.

He says, “He doesn’t like things because he’s such a minimalist, and I sometimes feel sorry for him because I enjoy visiting salvage yards and second-hand stores, and I like bringing furniture home, and I like painting it.”

I should sort of do it and give it away or sell it, but I end up keeping it and being asked, “What are you doing with that?” ‘ and I’m like… [Shirlie sighs] “

Shirlie acknowledged that despite their differences on the subject, she prefers to be more “let go” of things.

She continued, “I wish I could let go of a lot more because I believe we should let go of things.” However, you do need someone else to say it to you. Do you really need that? That blocks energy, right? ‘”.

Martin and Shirlie are parents to two adult children, daughter Harleymoon, 36, and son Roman, 32, who are also currently gracing our television screens whilst taking part in Celebrity Race Across The World.

Meanwhile, BBC’s The One Show host Roman has been offering his thoughts on his father’s adventure in the Australian jungle, with the presenter expressing his astonishment at how rapidly the pop icon has formed bonds with his fellow campmates.
