Marilyn Granas, a legend in Hollywood, passed away at the age of 98. Along with Temple, she had previously appeared in blockbusters like Bright Eyes, Curly Top, and The Little Colonel.
Marilyn Granas, the original body double for Shirley Temple as Shirley Temple’s child star, passed away at the age of 98. Her family has revealed that the Beverly Hills resident had passed away in October.
Her nephew, a historian of film, Arthur Grant, gave an update on her dementia. Grace was a part of numerous acclaimed Hollywood productions, including The Little Colonel, Curly Top, and Bright Eyes.
Granas stood just feet away as Temple and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson delivered their iconic staircase sequence during the latter’s production. Granas remained secret about her involvement in Temple’s life for years, worried that it would overshadow her other accomplishments.
She continued, “I made a new life and made the decision not to be Shirley Temple’s stand-in.”
However, she revealed that her relationship with Shirley was “best friend” in an interview from her 40s. We had a wonderful time together. We created a variety of games, and we were always forced to play “house” in all these wonderful locations when the sets weren’t being used.
Granas expressed her sympathy for Temple’s unusual upbringing in a 2016 interview with Closer, saying that her childhood was “unnatural.” She was denied access to a public school. She didn’t have many friends or be able to ride bikes or do kid things.
It was just the two of us on the set, they said. We never engaged in any other child play.
Granas later transitioned to a position as a casting director for NBC, where she participated in the 1955 Television Academy’s “Miss Cinderemmy” beauty contest. She played a crucial role in William Morris’ casting department before launching her own Beverly Hills-based agency over the course of more than three decades in the field of casting.
Fans of her work took to social media to express their condolences after the news of her death was revealed. One user wrote on Twitter/X: “#RIP Marilyn Granas, Shirley Temple’s replacement in “Bright Eyes” and other movies.
