Fans claimed “there is something wrong” after Mariah Carey’s speech, but the iHeartRadio Awards on Tuesday honored her with an icon award.
Singer Mariah Carey has sparked concern from fans after giving a ‘slurred’ speech at an awards ceremony. The 55-year-old Fantasy and Heartbreaker hitmaker was honoured with the Icon Award at the iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
Fans were enthralled as she delivered her acceptance speech, but she continued, “Should we be concerned for Mariah Carey?” Another fan once said, “There is something off.
Mariah joked, “Is the lighting okay?,” as she took to the stage in true diva fashion. LL Cool J, who she has previously collaborated with, presented her with her award. because “bad lighting” is not what I like. Her words started off as laughter, but as they progressed, they started to slurr slightly.
She ended her speech by honoring Patricia, her late mother, who passed away last year at the age of 87. Her mother’s passing coincided with Mariah’s sister Alison’s 63-year-old passing. Her sister, who was previously struggling with substance abuse, is thought to have passed away in New York’s hospice system.
Mariah said at the time, “My heart is broken that I lost my mother over the weekend.” My sister lost her life on the same day, tragically, in a tragic turn of events. She continued, “I want to thank my mother, Patricia Carey, for giving me the gift of music.” I appreciate you so much. Love you, love you, and love you.

Fans had questions after the speech was later shared on social media. What is going on, one questioner inquired. Is she okay????”? Another said, “Something isn’t right,” and the other said the same. I was wondering the same thing, a third person said. She definitely has some issues.
Some people argued that her recent family splits were to blame, saying: “She’s a legend! You can see she is very missing her mother, so bless her. Not the conspiracies, another wrote. Give the woman a break after seven years of relationship and bipolar disorder, and she lost her mother and sister on the same day a few months ago.
Others speculated that Bryan Tanaka, a 41-year-old dancer, and her breakup with her in December 2023, were to blame for her split.
According to one fan, “Tbh Mariah hasn’t changed since she broke up with Tanaka.” She has since been completely lip-syncing, very lull-looking, and overall not the same as Mariah. Unfortunately, it seems like she has drastically altered her health. Hope she receives the necessary assistance to improve.
Another fan added: “I’ve been really concerned about her since last year tbh. She always just seems low energy and out of it. It may sound weird to say but I hope that it’s just her still recovering from the loss of her mother & sister and not something more.” The Mirror have contacted Mariah’s reps for comment.
