In 2023, Andy Stone and Troy Powers of Vince Vance & The Valiants sued Mariah Care for her song “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” but they were now ordered to pay her back.

Mariah Carey scored an early gift this year – as she made a gain in a lawsuit over her hit song All I Want for Christmas Is You. The chart topping star has been locked in legal issues over the smash festive hit since 2023 after she was first sued by two songwriters over the 1994 track.

She allegedly ripped off their 1989 song, which had the same name, according to songwriters Andy Stone and Troy Powers of Vince Vance &amp, The Valiants. Mariah, 56, and the duo filed a lawsuit demanding compensation in the amount of $ 20 million ($14.88 million).

The legal drama has continued, and Mariah appears to be in good shape for the coming stages, despite the fact that a judge ultimately dismissed the case. The Valiants musicians’ Vince Vance & pay compensation to the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has been ordered by the case’s judge.

According to TMZ, Mariah has been awarded $92, 303.20 (£68, 394.36) in sanctions. While Complex claims that the judge “determined there was good reason not to file baseless lawsuits” against Stone and Powers’ lawsuit.

According to Stone, Stone claimed in court documents that Vince Vance &amp’s song All I Want for Christmas Is You had “extensive airplay” during the 1993 holiday season, which was argued to be significant because Carey had already released her version the year before.

Carey’s most recent legal victory comes just as her holiday song surpasses all previous records. The singer has reached the milestone of reaching No. 100 for her 100th week, according to Billboard. Following her return to the top of the chart in 1994, her song reached number one on the Hot 100. The song remained at No. 1 for 100 weeks, along with other 18 songs, including Visions of Love, Emotions, Touch My Body, and My All.

While All I Want for Christmas Is You has the longest leading No., it is a record-breaker in itself. With 21 weeks, the Billboard Hot 100 has held the top spot. According to Billboard, it is at its highest position as of December 2025. Since December 2019, the Hot 100 has placed 1 among the holidays.

Another chart-topper has been chosen to take the top spot for Christmas in the UK. With her surprise hit, Xmas, Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue climbed to the top of the charts. Wham! was outlasted by the singer successfully! The festive prize is the last Christmas, right?

It’s difficult to describe how special this is, she told Official Charts. The most wonderful gift is actually being the first one to celebrate Christmas.

Mariah also makes the top ten list for Christmas in the UK as of December 2025, taking her to third place. While Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath The Tree, Elton John’s Step Into Christmas, and Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock are among the other Christmas tunes in the top 10, the top 10 are Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, The Pogues, and Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale of New York, and J.B. Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock.

Chris Rea’s hit, Driving Home For Christmas, is at number 30 further down the chart. The singer tragically passed away this week after a brief illness, so there is a chance the song will top the charts the following week.

The star’s family released a statement on Monday, disclosing the depressing details, which were shared just after the singer posted a festive message on social media. They stated, “We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Chris.” He had a brief illness and was surrounded by his family, who later passed away peacefully in a hospital earlier today.

Fans of music praised the late singer, who took to social media to express their condolences. On X, someone wrote, “Genuinely gutted to hear this. A true Teesside legend. Chris, he lived for his cars, had a wonderful guitarist, and produced so many great albums. Chris Rea, RIP, no! Bad news..”.
