Fans are divided after seeing the first trailer for the Emerald Fennell film, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi in the upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation.
Wuthering Heights fans were gobsmacked after watching the first trailer for Emerald Fennell’s racy adaptation of the classic. The movie already divided fans with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi being cast as the leads of the updated version of the Emily Brontë novel.
Margot takes on the role of Catherine Earnshaw while Euphoria star Jacob transforms into Heathcliff. Saltburn director Emerald’s version won’t be faithful to the original novel, much to the disappointment of many. Just last month, test screenings proved to be disastrous as some were disgusted by the raunchy scenes.
Many people also criticized the first trailer, calling it “erotic softcore porn.”

One user said on X/Twitter: “Is Wuthering Heights about BDSM and fingering a fish? First in my generation to see a scene like that,” while another posted: “Listen, I’m no puritan and I’m into horror.
We are completely altering the tone andamp; theme of the novel, so it’s not the hypersexuality that makes me side-eye this, it’s just that it takes a f**k to go nuts. Why? She might make a unique feature film, but…
One user wrote, “I don’t even like the book, and the erotic retelling of Wuthering Heights makes me feel spooked.
One shocked user wrote, “They turned wuthering heights into soft porn, “while another posted, “I’m so fucking mad at that f**ka** wuthering heights adaptation if you want to do a stupid f**king pseudo-plot and do whatever you want to leave literature alone.
Fans of the trailer saw two particularly memorable moments, one in which Robbie’s fingers are in Elordi’s mouth and the other in which a person’s finger slides into the mouth of a dead fish.
The movie was labeled as “tonally abrasive” and “sexually explicit” after a test screening. A public hanging is the first scene in the film, but this is by far the most egregious scene in the opening sequel.
The male appears to ejaculate in the middle of the execution, causing a frantic commotion in the unaware crowd, which eventually turns into an orgiastic mess with a nun fondling the corpse’s apparent erection.
The sexual drive theme is present throughout the production, with scenes featuring “clinical masturbation” and horse-ride bonding, but the plot and emotions are less conventional than those who are familiar with Bront’s work.
On February 14, 2026, Wuthering Heights will be available in UK theaters.
