Summer McIntosh made history with a third gold at the World Aquatics Championships, and French Olympian Leon Marchand won the men’s 200-meter medley title.

In Singapore, Marchand broke the world record for the event by winning in a minute 53.68 seconds, beating Ryan Lochte’s previous 14-year mark once more.

The 23-year-old finished ahead of Hungary’s Hubert Kos (1:55.34) and American Shaine Casas (1:54.30) who took silver. Duncan Scott, a Brit, was unable to take the podium by more than a second (1: 56. 32).

Marchand, who will also compete in the 400-meter medley, said, “I couldn’t sleep yesterday.

McIntosh, a Canadian woman who won her third gold medal of the championships in the 200-meter butterfly, put on the second-fastest performance of all time.

The 18-year-old’s time of 2:01.99, which is the last record still in place from the supersuit era of swimming, brought her close to the record set by China’s Liu Zige in 2009.

McIntosh added to her 400-meter freestyle and 200-meter individual medley victories in Singapore by finishing three seconds clear of American Regan Smith. She is still on track to win five world championship titles, which is behind Michael Phelps’ record of five.

McIntosh, who will aim for additional golds in the 400-meter individual medley and 800-meter freestyle, admitted, “I know that I screwed up the last 15 meters of my race.”

Yu Zidi, a 12-year-old sensation from China, was denied a spot on the podium as she placed fourth, according to Australia’s Elizabeth Dekkers, who finished fourth.

Briton Emily Richards placed seventh (2: 07.99), ahead of Ireland’s Ellen Walshe (2: 08.34)

American Katharine Berkoff won gold in the women’s 50-meter backstroke in 27.08 seconds, while another Briton Lauren Cox placed fifth overall.

Matthew Richards won the men’s 100-meter freestyle title in a time of 46.51, beating Romania’s David Popovici, 20, who finished second overall.
