The 63-year-old Manchester-born actor also co-starred in Primal Scream and died last month. Before the procession, people started lining the streets around Manchester Cathedral. The service has featured a number of the city’s legends, including Paul Weller and David Beckham and Gary Neville, as well as music royalty. Paul Weller pays his respects

Paul Weller is pictured saying goodbye to the Stone Roses star among the music legends.

Paul Weller, the guitarist who recorded the song “gutted” Mani’s passing, provided a glimpse into the personality of the bass player. He wrote, “I still can’t believe it,” in a social media post. He had a big personality, like his bass sound, for a small fella. A genuine one-off. We’re going to miss you, Mateo. Your family, and especially your two lads, are in our thoughts. Another extremely bright light is out. I’m devastated. The Vespa scooters that are taking the hearse to Manchester Cathedral this morning, in my opinion, are a joke.

Ian Brown, who is wearing a pinstriped suit and having longer hair than usual, is the Stone Roses’ first member to arrive to pay his respects to Mani.

The Stone Roses’ band played their final performance as The Stone Roses in 1984, and Ian was Mani and Co’s final member. With their debut album, The Stone Roses, which included anthems like “I Am The Resurrection” and “I Wanna Be Adored,” they would forever alter music.

Manchester honors a musical legend

Lemon stickers and logos are currently displayed on lampposts and traffic lights in Manchester, along with other wearables by fans gathering outside the cathedral. Even some specially designed stickers feature a heart-shaped lemon that has been split in half. The Stone Roses were associated with the logo.

Two Oasis members have already arrived for the service. Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs and Andy Bell, two guitarists, have entered Manchester Cathedral.

Oasis’ lead singer Liam Gallagher, who frequently cited The Stone Roses as their main influence, admitted on X that he was “total shock” by Mounfield’s passing last month.

He described the bass player as “my hero,” saying that he was “absolutely devastated”.

Bonehead is a big Manchester United fan, just like Mani. On a number of dates from their most recent tour, Oasis dedicated Live Forever to Mani.
