Man Utd manager talk ‘waste of time’ says favourite Glasner

Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, responded to questions on Tuesday about the managerial position at Manchester United by cryptically saying he is “not allowed to bet”.

Ruben Amorim, who spent 14 months at Old Trafford, was fired on Monday, and the Austrian is one of the bookies’ favorites to replace him.

Glasner, 51, has impressed since joining Palace in 2024, helping them win their first major trophy last year by winning the Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup).

The Palace manager, who is out of contract at the end of the season, stated last month that Selhurst Park was in the process of pursuing a potential new deal.

When asked about the United job, he was evasive on the eve of his team’s home game against high-flying Aston Villa.

He said, “I’m not allowed to bet.” One clause in my contract states, “I’m not allowed to bet,” I don’t examine it.

Glasner was questioned about whether backing him as United’s next manager would be wise.

He smiled and said, “I can’t give insider information either,” not to mention that I would be violating my contract.

“I manage Crystal Palace,” I said. I don’t talk about any other clubs because it just makes no sense and you don’t want to spend any more time asking me questions.

According to Glasner, managers’ contracts were only ever lengthened.

“You can win trophies, but you’re not the manager there anymore, so I don’t think that’s any significance to the future,” he said.

You could ask me every day, “What’s the future?,” even if I sign a new contract.

Ruben Amorim, the manager, stated that he no longer holds the position of manager after 18 months in his press conference.
