Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder for Manchester United, wants to rekindle discussions with him about a new deal that would align him with the senior squad.
Mainoo’s current contract expires in 2027, but it has the option to extend it by another year. Given his well-known desire to leave United on loan last summer, it is still to be seen how open Mainoo is to signing a new deal.
Under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo hasn’t started a single Premier League game this season, and the club was hoping to secure a loan move during the current transfer window.
Mainoo has since been reintegrated into the senior ranks following Amorim’s departure, though.
The 20-year-old was named in interim boss Darren Fletcher’s debut against Brighton earlier this month in the FA Cup third round, and Mainoo replaced him in Michael Carrick’s debut game as United defeated City wistfully in the Manchester derby last weekend.
In response to his goalscoring contribution to United’s 2024 FA Cup final victory over City, which was followed by the youngster starting England’s Euro 2024 final defeat by Spain, the player agreed to a new contract in the wake of his long-term commitment to the player.
