Gianluigi Donnarumma, a goalkeeper for Manchester City from Paris St-Germain, is in advanced talks with Manchester City for just over £30 million, with Ederson joining Fenerbahce from Turkey.
With the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille, Donnarumma has surpassed expectations at Ligue 1 and Champions League champions PSG.
The Italian’s contract expiring at the end of this season makes it look like he will sign for City for a sum of £30.3 million (35 million euros) before the deadline of Monday, April 19 at 00 BST.
James Trafford was signed by City from Burnley for £27 million in the summer, and the Englishman has already launched his top-scoring campaign. However, sources have confirmed that Donnarumma’s deal is reportedly close to being completed.
The 26-year-old has won 74 caps for Italy and was the hero in their penalty shootout victory over England in the Euro 2020 final, which is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Inter Milan, a Serie A side, has agreed to loan Manuel Akanji for one million euros (870, 000).
The agreement gives the parties a 15 million euro (£13 million) option to make the move permanent, which becomes a requirement if Inter win Serie A.
From 2017 until the start of this season, Brazil’s Ederson had been City’s first choice, but the clubs had agreed to make a £12.1 million (14 million euros) move to Fenerbahce.
After moving from Benfica for £35 million, the 32-year-old has not played this season, winning six Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
Four senior goalkeepers are on City’s books, and Stefan Ortega’s family has informed BBC Sport that the German goalkeeper wants to leave before the window is up. Marcos Bettinelli signed for Chelsea for free in the summer.
Does Donnarumma’s relationship with Manchester City make sense?
How does Donnarumma compare to the current group of goalkeepers at Manchester City, and how does he fit into Pep Guardiola’s system? The move seems to be getting closer.
According to PSG head coach Luis Enrique, the 26-year-old’s availability is a function of his ability to play ball at his feet, with him “looking for a goalkeeping profile that is different”.
Guardiola also demands that his goalkeepers play brave on the field and even launch attacks. The reticent Ederson has made an excellent passer and collected eight assists totaling the Premier League’s total while playing for the club, four of which came last year.
Donnarumma hasn’t yet provided an assist, but last year, he passed with 85.4% of his passes in the French top flight, which is higher than Stefan Ortega’s and below the Brazilian Premier League average.
Surprisingly, his save percentage is 66.2%. According to Opta, he kept just four clean sheets in his first 24 league starts, and his total goals prevented total was -3.6. He also conceded almost four goals more than he should have.
In previous seasons, Donnarumma has recorded far better numbers, as well as in PSG’s successful 2024-25 Champions League campaign, where he prevented more than 70% of shots from being faced. He has nearly one in four spot kicks saved, which is impressive in comparison to other penalties.
