Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, passed away, according to Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.
According to a family source, the adored traditional ruler passed away in Ibadan on Monday morning.
The governor promised a dignified burial for the late king hours after the monarch’s death.
I make family and I all feel our pain. When the family delegation arrives, Makinde said, “The government will stay with the family and play whatever roles we are supposed to play, including giving Kabiyesi a dignified burial.”
The delegation also included the former leaders-general of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, Osuolale Owolabi Olakulehin, Osuolale Olakulehin, and Aremo Olasumbo Owolabi, the son of the deceased.
“I’ll ask the family to be heartfelt to the entire family. Interestingly, today is the 13th birthday of my father’s passing. Therefore, I ask for strength for the immediate family.
We prefer that they remain with us rather than leave. However, according to Mahane, God has for a certain time created our bodies.
Oyero earlier stated to the governor, “We are here this morning with gratitude to God and formally inform you of the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Frederick Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, who passed away early this morning.
“We appreciate you very much. You still supported his ascension to the Ibadanland imperial throne despite the contentious situation that existed prior to his ascendance.
We want to thank your government for everything it has done for him, including a remarkable, historic coronation ceremony.
