In the final of the 2025 Championship League in Leicester, Stephen Maguire defeated Joe O’Connor 3-1 to claim his first ranking victory of the year.

The 44-year-old Scot won his seventh career title from 15 finals, his first since winning the Tour Championship in 2020.

With only eight of the 128-strong field still up, the three-stage competition, which kicked off at Leicester Arena on June 30th, reached its conclusion on Wednesday.

After winning a best-of-four frame round-robin, Maguire advanced to the final and was guaranteed a spot in the final. Before falling to China’s Pang Junxu (3-1) and Matthew Selt (3-1), the 15th seed defeated Ben Mertens (3-3) and the other three.

O’Connor, who was seeded 16th overall, only lost two frames to finish first overall against Tom Ford (3-1) and Ricky Walden (3-1).
