Machado Garry defeats Prates in UFC Fight Night welterweight bout

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night in Kansas City) welterweight champion Ian Machado Garry escaped a late scare from Carlos Prates and was given a unanimous decision.

Garry won on the judges ‘ scorecards, 48-47, 48-47, 49-46, to end Prates’s unbeaten run in the UFC.

On Saturday night, Garry controlled four of the final five rounds, keeping Prates on guard thanks to the Octagon’s superior movement, feinting, wrestling, and off-balance striking attacks.

Prates attempted a fifth-round technical knockout (TKO) against his taller opponent in the final minute of the fifth round. Although Parates repeatedly punched Garry on the feet and the ground, the Irishman made it through the late onslaught because both fighters were exhausted late in the fight.

Garry expressed his relief after the fifth-round flurry following Prates’ performance.

Garry responded to Prates’ decision with the statement, “I was not hurt. “I was conscious at all times.” That man is a danger, I am aware of. I respect everything The Fighting Nerds do, including him and his team.

Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena’s welterweight title fight will be fought on May 10th, and Garry has revealed that he is the official backup fighter.

Anthony Smith’s mixed martial arts (MMA) career came to an end with a first-round TKO victory over the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger in the co-main event on Saturday. Before the fight was called off, Zhang landed a flurry of punches and elbows to completely sabotage the Nebraska native.

Despite the outcome, Smith expressed his pride in his progress over a difficult career.

In the Octagon following the loss, Smith said, “I’m just going to be grateful it happened.” “I appreciate you guys.”

Smith won 13 UFC fights and made his professional debut. Smith (37-22 MMA) ended his three-fight losing streak while Zhang (19-6 MMA) has not yet reached the second round of any of his career victories.

The first UFC fight in Kansas City since April 2023 took place on Saturday.
