Lulu Roman, 78, the music composer and gospel singer, has been confirmed by her son. Seven months after moving to Washington to be with her son, the Hee Haw star passed away. No cause of death has been identified.
A brief statement from her publicist, Ben Laurro, confirms the depressing news. According to the statement, “Lulu Roman was unsung. She endured a lot of hardship in her life, which helped her succeed in helping others.
Between 1969 and 1992, Lulu made her first appearance on the CBS program Hee Haw. She had previously claimed that she was “hired to be the fat girl.”
They needed one fat boy next door, one fat man, and one fat woman, she claimed in a 2024 interview with News Channel 5. I got your girl, Buck [Owens] said! She’s in Dallas! “‘
In March 1971, Lulu claimed she had meth, speed, LSD, and marijuana before being detained for drug possession. Before converting to Christianity, she left the program and received a four-year sentence ten months later. After convincing producers to let her sing, she was hired again in 1973.
She previously stated that after she converted, “The Lord began working on me and making me quite a different person than when I started.”

Lulu reinvented herself as a gospel singer while she was on the program. She would later make her first album, which was released in 1974, on a doldrums.
She would also regularly play live shows. Dolly Parton was one of the people she partnered with to record.
In 1999, she was inducted into the country gospel music hall of fame.
Following Lulu’s passing, Hee Haw Honeys co-star Misty Rowe praised her saying, “We were as different as night and day.
We have been the original Hee Haw Honeys and Kornfield Friends ever since 1972 when we started working together. We used to argue before coming to terms by saying, “I love you, Lu,” and then saying, “I love you, too, Sugar.”
Lulu “was a gift to me throughout my life.” She twice played my mother, despite being only three years my senior. Lulu is my angel in heaven after we were Gossipy Girls. We will all see her again in that big Kornfield in the sky someday, and I thank God for her time here on Earth.
She revealed to The 700 Club in 2010 that after the show had ended, she had lost 200 pounds.
