Demi Jones has told fans she feels ‘like a walking zombie’ after an ‘awful mistake’ with her medication. The former Love Islander, 27, mentioned she forgot to reorder her repeat prescription for Levothyroxine, a crucial medication often used to support patients after thyroid cancer treatment.

Demi’s admission comes just four years after doctors found a cancerous lump in her neck back in 2021. Fortunately, after two major surgeries and radioiodine therapy, she was given the all-clear that same year in December.

Even still, the reality star continues to speak out about her health journey and said the medication ordeal had left her quite ‘tearful’. “Thyroid girlies – I’ve made an awful mistake,” Demi wrote on her Instagram Story.

Before I ran out, I forgot to order my levothyroxine. I’ve been waiting for 10 days without any tablets and will finally have them delivered to my pharmacy. I’m so wiped out and teary that I can’t walk.

To avoid being like me, please order your repeat prescription right away. For the first time in four years since I’ve had cancer, I’ve run out of pills completely, and I’m never going to forget.

Demi later revealed that she had been flooded with kind and helpful messages from fans online despite the stressful situation. Demi had no idea about getting emergency Levothyroxine in many of these because many of them made it clear that you can get it in these dire circumstances.

In a separate Story, she continued: “Omg thank you for all your messages guys! I had no idea you can get emergency Levothyroxine if you completely run out and it’s urgent through NHS, so thank you!

I’ve had a few near misses with it over the past four years, but I wish they could have prescribed more than three months in a row because I think it all passes so quickly. especially if the medication is a daily lifetime. Although I’ll always be sure to stay up to date going forward, it’s always great to know and share! I’m so grateful.

After initially denying that the lump on her neck was anything serious, Demi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 22. After online users and online strangers complained that something seemed odd, she only made the decision to see a doctor.

Before removing some fluid from the lump, the doctors first performed an ultrasound and a blood test. She was urged to go for surgery “almost immediately” two weeks later and called back.

“A couple of weeks later, the doctor called me in,” she said in a previous interview, according to the Mirror. “As soon as they said the word ‘cancer’, I just went into shock. So, I then had to go back in for a second surgery where they removed the rest of my thyroid.”

Demi’s cancer battle has passed away, but the actress said she still takes pride in wearing her scar and is still trying to raise awareness of the condition.

She also urged people to contact their doctors if they believe they have thyroid cancer symptoms.

Thyroid cancer potential signs

The NHS offers a wealth of information regarding thyroid cancer online. It states that common symptoms may include:

  • difficult breathing or swallowing
  • a loud voice
  • A lump in the lower, frontal region of the neck – it typically feels uncomfortable and gradually grows.
  • Pain in the neck’s front and the sensation of something pressing against it
  • Red face/flushing
  • Diarrhoea or softer poos
  • Losing weight
  • persistent coughing
  • A sore throat

However, current advice cautions that “These symptoms are very common and can be brought on by a variety of conditions.” Doing so does not unquestionably indicate thyroid cancer. However, having them checked by a general practitioner is crucial.

Finding them early may make it easier to treat them because they may be caused by cancer.
