Louis Tomlinson has spoken out about getting comfortable with his solo music and that, 15 years after making his debut, he is “allowing himself to be the artist he’d’always hoped to be.”

Louis Tomlinson is “allowing himself” to be completely liberated. The musician, who today celebrates the release of his third solo album, How Did I Get Here?, has spent years mastering his own sound since his days in One Direction.

The 34-year-old from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, has always been renowned for his edgy style and songwriting prowess, but now that his first solo album is out, it’s safe to say that Tomlinson is at ease. Louis acknowledges that releasing material without his bandmates can still be “intimidating.”

Tomlinson told American chat show host Jimmy Fallon, “I’m still learning and improving as a singer and songwriter.” It’s not in my vocabulary; it’s impossible for me to be complacent. I’m allowing myself to achieve my artistic goals for the first time.

Louis said, “I really, I really needed the last two tours that I did, to put myself out there once more. You may be wondering why leaving a band like One Direction and going independent, but that’s not for the faint-hearted, no.

And I really needed the self-assurance I acquired while on the tour. The fans are the only ones who can do that. And Louis will continue to have the energy thanks to his millions of fans, who will be watching him perform live this year.

He said, “It really leaves me no room for self-doubt. You know, I always get great reactions from the crowd when I do what I do every night. Louis is the first to admit that he frequently detests the promotional touring aspect of his career, but this time around he finds solace in it.

Tomlison said, “Every moment, every memory I have of One Direction is incredibly special, obviously, and how that has helped shape him into the musician he is today. However, that experience was still relevant in some ways. It’s a very different version of the same thing because of how much you’re in a band and how you do things collectively and how you share the pressure.

“I feel very at ease with this record,” he says. And I made it feel incredibly comfortable. The procedure was really enjoyable. Even the promo, which is new to me, is entertaining.

Tomlinson’s most recent album, Deep Guitar, draws heavily on his musical influences, including those from Oasis and Oasis.

He recently referred to his new album as “the record I always deserved to make,” adding that “my bread and butter is the honesty.” I sincerely wear my heart on my sleeve, and I hope the music reflects this.

Louis said in a new interview that he became aware that occasionally one or two band members become successful, not all of them, after their respective careers ended.

“That was really scary, because I was never going to put myself in that group of two ever,” he commented to Billboard. Meanwhile, he told fans on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Going to need your help over the next few days to cut through the noise. Time to give this record the moment it deserves.

Let me thank each and every person who has benefited me over the years in this moment. You remain with me throughout this entire record.

Without you and your team’s incredible talent, this album would never have sounded the way it does. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much! “How did I get here?”

What Place Was I In? is currently accessible and was released via BMG.
