Loose Women star Carol McGiffin, 65, has opened up about her 2018 facelift, revealing the brutal recovery process distressed her husband Mark Cassidy
Carol McGiffin’s younger husband Mark Cassidy was not a fan of her facelift. it’s been revealed. The former Loose Women star underwent the cosmetic procedure in 2018, and whilst Carol, 65, is happy with how it turned out, she’s ruled out going under the knife again because she found the experience of the “butchery” unbearable.
When asked whether she’d contemplate further surgery, Carol – who tied the knot with her 43 year old partner in Bangkok, Thailand, in February 2018 – revealed to Woman’s Own: “It was too long ago now; I need another one – it was in 2018 when I went under the knife.

She added, “I wouldn’t have another facelift, though, because I couldn’t go through that again. Poor Mark – it nearly killed him. He said it was horrible. The end result was good, but the butchery was pretty brutal – it wasn’t great.”
Back in October 2025, the television personality – who first crossed paths with Mark at a Loose Women wrap party in 2008 – confessed that her facelift hadn’t delivered the longevity she’d anticipated, as Carol had “lately started to hate [her] own face”.
Writing in her Best magazine column, she shared: “Lately, I have started to hate my own face. That doesn’t mean I hate myself, no, I love myself because I am fabulous!”.
“But, when I look in the mirror, I don’t see myself anymore, I see a decrepit old woman, and I think, ‘Who the b***** hell is that??
“It’s partly my own fault, I suppose, for having a great life and living in the sun, but also for not buying into the Botox or other ‘tweaks’ for all these years, but silly me, I thought the expensive, full ‘cut and paste’ facelift I had in 2018 would last longer than it has.
“Unfortunately, I’m not one of those women who have the money, the time and the high pain threshold to endure endless needles or whatever else is going into their faces. Am I jealous? Yeah, actually I am! Because some of those women look unbelievable.”
Carol – who referenced Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, 65, who recently invested thousands in non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate her complexion, including six NeoGen nitrogen plasma sessions and the Triple Collagen Reset procedure – mentioned that Mark adores her au naturel appearance.
The Celebrity Big Brother 2013 participant revealed: “Luckily, Mark doesn’t seem to mind, or he pretends not to notice, but it’s all made worse by the fact he’s younger than me by 22 years and had his eyesight fixed a few years ago, so instead of waking up to a blurred beauty, he gets the harsh reality.
“The only positive is that he also lives in the sun and is ageing as well, very nicely as it happens.”
