A “secret ingredient” that can impart a “really deep flavor” to the dish has been shared by Ruth Langsford’s “fabulous” recipe for a well-known spag bol.
Ruth Langsford has dished up her go-to spaghetti bolognese recipe, and it’s got a twist that might raise a few eyebrows. The Loose Women star swears by an unexpected ‘secret ingredient’ for this Italian classic, promising it delivers a ‘really deep flavour’.
Posting to Instagram yesterday, she said: “Hi everybody, well, I’m in the kitchen today, hence the wooden spoon. I’m going to make a spag bol. This is my mum’s recipe, and I know you might roll your eyes, ‘But we all know how to make spag bol, Ruth.’
Some people say, “Oh, I never put mushrooms; I adore celery and mushrooms,” yelling. And I’ve just made it my own, delicious, little recipe. Let’s get cooking now, then. “
Ruth used a heated frying pan to sauté chopped onions from her freezer before trying to make a new recipe. She then used a large fork to break up any lumps in a pack of minced beef.
Look, I have this fantastic thing in my hand if you have lumps. You don’t want a big lumpy spag bol, do you, because you don’t want one? Before putting a blob of tomato and garlic puree in the pan, Ruth said.
She continued, “And then cook that off before adding anything else.” The secret ingredient is red oxo, tomatoes, and diluted red oxo. Instant coffee granules are Ruth’s unusual addition to the dish, so “brace yourselves.”

Ruth insists that this is not the case despite the possibility that you might think it would add an unnecessary bitterness to your meal. Even though Jack Holmes, 23, doesn’t like the caffeinated beverage, she has been serving this dish to him for years.
She continued, “I believe it gives it a really strong flavor, it doesn’t taste like coffee.” “So, Jack, just to let you know, Darling, I’ve always put coffee in your spag bowl. Additionally, you detest coffee. “
Ruth continued adding “a lot of” dried basil and bay leaves for even more flavor. She then placed a lid on top of the pan, simmering it for “an hour and a half” or so.
The 65-year-old woman finished her recipe, “but don’t forget my little secret ingredient is coffee.” She also summed up, “No strict measurements here; I just go by eye, taste as I go, and trust my instincts,” in the caption.
