Carol McGiffin may be known for her controversial opinions, but in one heated discussion, the former Loose Women star caused huge tension on set with one of her co-stars

One of Loose Women’s most controversial stars claims there she had a huge bust-up backstage on the show with a co-star. Tensions were particularly high as the pair locked horns over the Ukraine war.

Carol McGiffin officially left the ITV show back in 2023 after returning to the programme in 2018. During her tenure on the show, she became known for her bold claims that frequently clashed with her fellow panellist. But during one exchange, tensions continued off camera. Now she says that it is likely she will never go back on the show ever again.

Speaking to Andrew Gold on his Heretics podcast, former columnist Carol explained that tensions on set had always been high in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, given her anti-mask and anti-lockdown stance.

As time went on the pandemic began to subside, Carol remarked that “the day after” COVID was over, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine got underway. This comes despite the fact that all COVID restrictions were lifted in England and Wales on July 19, 2021; and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was launched on February 24, 2022.

With the world in shock about what Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was doing, Loose Women decided to make it a true talking point in the opening days of the war. But huge tensions would bubble up, as Carol refused to outright support Ukraine from the get go.

“There was someone on the show that day and we had this massive, massive, massive row before the show,” Carol explained. “Because I refused to say I am on the side of Ukraine; I wasn’t on anyone’s side, I wanted to look at what had happened historically and what might be the reason for this.”

Carol claimed that there were “a lot of reasons” why she ended up being less sympathetic to Ukraine due to the complex history between the two nations, but she hit out at the “intolerance” that she felt from both the show and what she believed were leftists. After being pushed by host Andrew to reveal the name, she ultimately revealed it was co-star Kaye Adams.

As Carol admitted, the pair had always been good friends, but their differences of opinion often caused rifts in their relationship. “Me and her always fought, but we’re really good friends,” she explained.

She also hit out at the collective hatred that the world had garnered for Mad Vlad, and said she refused to believe that the Russian leader was “insane and mad”. She went out to slam everyone for trying to “make Putin the enemy”, believing this was not the case.

Carol also batted away any suggestions that she should have children. “I always said this on Loose Women, that I don’t have to [have kids] because you’re doing it,” she insisted. “And someone once said to me you’d be a much better person if you had children.”
