A decade on from his death, fans across the world still mourn and celebrate the life of rock star and music legend
Legendary musician David Bowie passed away ten years ago, but for fans worldwide, his legacy and influence on pop culture remain to this day.
The Ziggy Stardust star died at the age of 69 of cancer in his New York home in January 2016. Following his death, tributes flooded in from some of the most famous artists, songwriters and celebrities.
Bowie remains a firm household name, from a London schoolboy to a worldwide phenomenon, as his artistry has changed the scope of both music, fashion and popular culture forever. Influencing stars we see today, such as Harry Styles, Lorde, and so many more, his legacy lives on through new and emerging artists – but the man himself is simply irreplaceable.
There are numerous iconic photographs that capture the magic of Bowie’s artistry and serve as reminders of his vast and ever-evolving career. He is remembered for often breaking the boundaries set in place regarding gender stereotypes and expectations for male artists, which was unheard of in the late 1960s and early 1970s era, during which he rose to fame.
The choices he made – from colour to silhouettes, styles and performance – were constantly evolving as he reinvented himself over and over, forming some of the most memorable images in popular culture. From his album covers to his TV performances and music video looks, Bowie was never one to stick to the status quo from the beginning of his career in 1964 right up until 2016.
