Longest US government shutdown leaves millions without food aid or pay

The longest government shutdown ever, which has been in place for 36 days, is now in effect. Some welfare programs have been discontinued, including those that enable low-income families to purchase food. Due to the government shutdown, more than a million people are being fired.
