Denise O’Sullivan from North Carolina Courage has been permanently signed by Liverpool.

Liverpool paid a club-record fee of around £300,000 for the midfielder, who had a year left on her contract with North Carolina. Their previous best offer was the £210,000 they paid for Olivia Smith in 2024.

The 31-year-old has accumulated a wealth of experience having won 128 caps for her country since making her debut in 2011.

She has represented both her native Ireland and clubs in her native country, which includes the United States, Australia, Scotland, and England.

O’Sullivan has captained the club for the past nine years for National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side North Carolina Courage, playing in more than 150 games.

O’Sullivan, who had interest from a number of clubs, is said to have been very drawn to Liverpool’s long-term project and Melwood facilities.

It means a lot, I say. For me and my family, who are now only a 40-minute flight away, is very proud, O’Sullivan said.
