Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are currently negotiating a deal for Florian Wirtz.
The Premier League champions have reportedly made a second, better offer for the midfielder from Germany.
Liverpool’s most recent offer for the 22-year-old is around £109 million, including add-ons.
Manchester City are no longer in the running for the player, according to BBC Sport, who pointed to the significant costs associated with the transfer.
Similar interest in Wirtz was expressed by Bayern Munich, but the midfielder’s decision to join Liverpool puts Arne Slot’s side in a strong position.
At the age of 17, Wirtz made his Leverkusen debut, scoring 57 goals in all 197 games.
He scored six goals in 29 games for Germany, helping them to win the German Bundesliga for the first time in 2024.
