A beaming Bundee Aki was roiling about everything in the wake of the British and Irish Lions’ third Test against Australia in Sydney.

The topics covered Andy Farrell’s desire to return to the Lions coaching position in 2029, his career as coach being his best achievement, and the special bonds the players and forged.

Then he mentioned something extraordinary, almost passingly: Kayla’s wife had delivered their fifth child in a car before the first Test of the series.

The Irishman from New Zealand responded, “I want to enjoy my break, my family time.

My family has been missing for eight weeks, I say. I haven’t yet met the newborn who I have.

Pardon?

” Yep, a girl. I haven’t met her because she was born while we were playing in Brisbane. I’m looking forward to meeting her because her name is Aine, he continued.

Sorry?

He continued, “Thanks to my wife.”

Indeed, Kayla deserves praise for giving birth to the couple’s fifth child.

As Bundee and the Lions prepared for the first Test in Brisbane, Aine entered the world in a car while the other three were visiting their families. The first was delivered in a hospital, and the third three were at home.

The amazing scene never appeared in public until it was mid-tour.

She is a strong, powerful woman. It’s a funny story in itself, the 35-year-old said, “If you only knew the story of what happened.”

The gaggle of journalists who were waiting for the full story presented Aki at that time.

The biggest story of the tour was scurrying out in front of us as we spent six weeks searching for gold in this country. We were literally conducting the final player interview of the trip.

Do you have any time? “asked the Connacht player,” the player said. He might have just as easily inquired about a complimentary lunch.

It was a pleasant day, they said. I stayed at the team hotel. We were overdue, I was aware. My water hasn’t broken but I’m going to the hospital, I’m experiencing contractions,” the missus calls me.

She called back as we were getting ready for the team meeting’s pre-game announcement that she was headed for the hospital.

She sends a picture of her broken water five minutes later. I thought, “Cool, okay, are you almost there?” The hospital is about 30 or 40 minutes away. You’ll be fine, Mum is there, I said.

Aki wasn’t in the 23-man squad for the first Test, but after Aine arrived, he was confident the Lions would achieve their goals.

After defeating the Wallabies in the first half with a blitz, they duly won the series 27-19 and defeated them in Melbourne the following week. Aki is now playing for the side in Melbourne.

“I was aware that it had a magical property known as “Juju,” which brought good fortune. He continued, “I knew we were going to have a good day.”

My wife adored the name Aine, and all of my children started with A. That’s five As in the family: Armani, Adrianna, Andronicus, Ailbhe, and now Aine.

The Lions players are scattering in various directions now that the series is over. Some are returning home, others are exploring Australia, and others are seeking a break somewhere else.
