Warrington (10) 10

With a 40-10 victory over Warrington Wolves, Wakefield Trinity recorded their first back-to-back victories of their Super League campaign thanks to Mason Lino.

Trinity’s 32-8 Magic Weekend victory over Castleford Tigers was backed up by a seven-try victory over Wire, which gave Wakefield’s half-back unstoppable form.

The 31-year-old Samoa international scored four tries as Wakefield defeated the Challenge Cup finalists to finish sixth in the table. He produced a superb display with both his boot and hands.

But it always seemed likely right away.

As Wakefield started the game on fire early, Max Jowitt’s goals gave them a lead of 12-12 in the first 10 minutes, Prop Caius Faatili scored two tries in the following set.

After 27 minutes, Arron Lindop and Connor Wrench finally gave Trinity a 20-10 lead before Josh Griffin’s third stretched it to 18-0 before Warrington finally flexed their muscles.

When Corey Hall blasted home from four yards and Jowitt added the extras to extend the lead to 14 points once more, Warrington had already taken a step toward spring in the second half.

As the half progressed, Warrington could be excused for being exhausted. They are also battling an unreliable injury list that seems to be growing, and they also started this matchup with a well-rested Wakefield on the heels of last Sunday’s battling Challenge Cup semi-final victory over Leigh Leopards.

As Lino pulled the strings and Wakefield piled on the misery, those sluggish legs undoubtedly contributed to this scoreline.

In the 56th minute, Tom Johnstone scored a superb offload inches off the turf from Mathieu Cozza, who had just ten minutes to score Griffin for a second try.

Oli Pratt scored six goals from seven attempts in the final 12 minutes of play, with Jowitt’s boot converting his try.

Warrington, who are currently ninth place in the league after their sixth defeat of the year, will look forward to their Challenge Cup final encounter with Hull KR on June 7.

Coach Daryl Powell for Wakefield Trinity stated:

“We must be in the top six to demonstrate that we are here as a genuine team who are going to be difficult to deal with and who can threaten anyone,” he said.

We are constantly mentioning how confident we are in maintaining our position and gaining more confidence.

“I’m sure there are some people out there who are getting excited about our playing,” said coach Judith McLean. “It’s about making sure we don’t get ahead of ourselves.”

“We’re going to get better and better,” said the captain of my team. The boys there are currently working in a class.

Sam Burgess, the coach of the Warrington Wolves, said:

“We definitely looked a little lethargic and physically,” said one participant. Although the game from last week did contribute, I still anticipated that we would be a little better today.

We are just compartmentalizing things and taking one week at a time because we are aware of our position in the league at the moment and also know Wembley is approaching.

“We’ve got [Hull] KR on Friday, so it’s not getting any easier for us, and we’ve got to fix things pretty quickly.
