Track with title
The title track of the album, which describes the couple’s early relationship, where Lily’s daughters live in a house in New York, is featured. She describes how happy she is that she has accepted a new role in West End productions 22 and A Ghost Story in 2021.
Lily says, “I miss you, but this is what you’re going to do.” The song then ends with an emotional phone call. Okay, so I’m not feeling great about it… If that’s what you need to do, then… I suppose. But how would it operate? I mean, I’m really depressed, but I want you to be content. You are my love.
Ruminating
Lily talks about how she couldn’t sleep while working in London in Song Ruminating. She claims, “I can’t shake the image of her naked.”
Then she sings, “Why can’t you wait for me to return home?” This conversation is too large for a call. I’ve spent the night ruminating and running. Did you look into her eyes while giving her a kiss? Have you enjoyed yourself? Will you not tell me that I’m still your number one now that it’s over, baby? Because you are my number one.
Sleepwalking
The third song on the album explores Lily’s reaction to her husband’s marriage ending. She then sings about how she initially believed there might be a second woman involved.
She sings: “‘ Why aren’t we f***ing, baby? ‘ Yes, you did exactly that. But you allowed me to believe that it was me and not the girls in your bed.
Tennis and Relapse
Lily makes the suggestion in Relapse that the two are in a committed relationship despite disagreeing with the idea. She sings, “I tried to be your modern wife, but the child in me protests.”
Before she discovers texts from a mystery girl on his phone, Tennis then discusses the singer’s plans for a welcome home meal for an unappreciative partner.
“I regret reading your texts,” I say. How you’ve been playing tennis has been convulsing my mind. I wouldn’t be jealous if it were just sex. You won’t play with me, Lily says, and who is Madeline?
Then she sings, “I have a lot of information that I can’t even process.” I then sent you a brief email explaining what I saw. And then you entered the bedroom, making it entirely my fault.
Just Enough and Madeline
Madeline features Lily admitting to texting the other woman involved in her marriage when she inquired, “Is it just sex or is emotion?”
She sings the depressing line “I think you’re in love with someone else, felt you pull away, and now I’m blaming myself” in the ballad Just Enough.
P**** Palace
One of the album’s most explosive songs, P***y Palace, features Lily describing kicking her husband out of their New York home and moving him to a different West Village apartment.
She arrives at the apartment, which “she had assumed would be a dojo,” but I realized something wasn’t working. Am I a “sex addict,” then?
She claims in the second verse that she found a shoebox of sexy toys as well as letters “from broken hearted women that wish you could have been better” and “how did I get caught up in your double life”?
