Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy has shared how she’s coped in the year since his death, via a heartbreaking tribute. This comes shortly after Liam’s former mentor Simon Cowell and former One Direction bandmate Louis Tomlinson opened up about the star’s death.
In a video posted to Instagram, Kate started with a clip of her and Liam with the words, “What have you been up to since I’ve been gone?” written over the top. She followed the clip with a montage of her year and added a list of things she’s been doing: “Turning 26, adopted our foster dog, staying busy with friends, spoke about you, got tattoos, went to disney, staying active, doing things that make me happy.”

She put “Love you, Liam!!!” as the video’s caption. In the comments, people expressing their support. One person wrote, “Kate, you’re so proud of you.” You truly inspire me. keep spreading love and hope wherever you go”!
Wherever he is, he is, I know, just like I’m proud of him, he said. Kate, you and I are so in love. You have a lot of good work, guys. And a third person expressed his pride in themselves.
Liam Payne died on 16 October 2024, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a hotel balcony. He had been on holiday with Kate, but stayed on a few days whilst she went home.
Kate has revealed her grief in a candid manner. She shared a black and white photo of them on Instagram on the anniversary of his passing, which read, “Today marks a full year without you here. I’ll hate saying goodbyes forever. Liam, I miss you.
Kate is smiling while keeping her eyes closed while Liam, who has her arm wrapped around her and kissing her cheek, is pictured. Additionally, she shared a picture on her Stories. Liam beams at the camera while Kate, who is covered in a coat, hat, and scarf, hugs him from the side in black and white.
Before that, she felt the need to speak out online after some criticised her for finding comfort in AI-generated photos of her and the singer.
Kate shared some realistic images of her and Liam smiling together, which were created using generative AI. One of Liam’s former coworkers even described her decision to share them as “disgusting” and some fans criticized the dangers of using AI in this way.
However, Kate made a message to her followers on TikTok to “stop judging people for their grieving.” She continued, “Over the past few days, I’ve seen so many posts and news articles kind of bashing me for finding comfort and peace in seeing photos of me and Liam created with AI.”
Please, please, please, please, kindly stop telling me how to grieve, how I should be finding comfort, and what I shouldn’t be finding comfort in because none of you have ever been in my situation and you should never be.
Not just her, Liam’s death has recently caused her to make an opening statement. Louis Tomlinson recently stated that he was struggling with his grief and would “never really accept” Liam’s passing. In contrast, Simon Cowell’s most recent interview with Rolling Stone revealed that “the death” really hit hard and that he “wished he” could turn the back on the clock.
