One Direction singer Liam Payne tragically died last year following a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina, as a jailed clear has claimed the hotel made a ‘big mistake’
New photos of Liam Payne just hours before his tragic death have been published a year on. The One Direction star tragically died aged 31 following a fall from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, one year ago today.
Police are still attempting to piece together the singer’s final hours, when he was left alone in the South American country when his girlfriend Kate Cassidy decided to return home. Two suspects have been charged with supplying drugs, and both deny the allegations.
No trial date has been set, and it has been reported that local police are going through over 800 hours of CCTV footage, as well as trawling through Liam’s personal laptop and the mobile phones of those connected to his death. Cleaner Ezequiel David Pereyra, 22, has been locked up and has spoken for the first time from jail.

He is awaiting trial for allegedly selling Liam cocaine. Pereyra has claimed Casa Sur Palermo hotel bosses turned a blind eye to Liam’s drug use during his stay.
The cleaner claimed the hotel had Liam in “an isolated bunker” and “let him do anything he wanted” because “he was making them too much money.” Pereyra told The Sun: “But I think the biggest mistake was not calling an ambulance when Payne passed out in the lobby.
“If the hotel had acted differently, Liam could have been saved.” He claimed Liam shouldn’t have been taken from the lobby, and an ambulance should’ve been called instead.
Pereyra claimed Liam was moved from the lobby “because that day they had many foreign guests checking in”. Detailing the tragic moments that followed, the cleaner said the bosses called police instead of an ambulance after leaving Liam in his room alone.
He said by the time they made the call, “it was already too late.” Pereyra claimed Liam’s death could have been prevented and was “very sad”.
Pereyra was charged in January, and waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz, 25, is also accused of supplying cocaine. They both face 15 years in jail if convicted.
New photos obtained by the publication have shown Liam outside the hotel at 3.48pm and another still from 4.28pm showed him reclining on a lobby sofa with his laptop and bottles nearby.
Paiz has admitted to taking drugs with Liam but vehemently denies supplying them. Court documents show that he is charged with selling cocaine to Liam, two days before the star tragically died.
“I wish he hadn’t died and things were different. I used to feel regret about what happened, but actually I don’t regret meeting him as he was my idol and I was a big fan,” he told the outlet. He stated he didn’t sell drugs to Liam as he didn’t take any money from him.
Liam’s death was caused by “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding”. At the time of his death, according to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14, Liam was three times the US legal drink driving limit.
His blood showed traces of alcohol, cocaine and prescription anti-depressants, which would have left him severely impaired. Liam had flown to Argentina for a five-day holiday with Kate to see his ex-bandmate Niall Horan’s show.
