Noel described one of the band’s most disappointing reunion shows as one of their worst ever performances at Wembley Stadium, which is when the band’s highly anticipated reunion shows at Wembley Stadium kick off tonight.
Seven nights of Wembley Stadium shows are all set to begin this evening with Manchester rock duo Oasis. Fans are eager to see it as part of the Gallagher brothers’ reunion tour of the UK and Ireland.
But a Wembley gig 25 years ago in the year 2000 still haunts the rock icons with Noel Gallagher describing it as ‘dreadful’ at the time. It’s made music history as one of their most cringe gigs which both Noel and Liam Gallagher have regretted publicly.
As excitement builds for the Oasis’s 2025 reunion shows at Wembley Stadium, fans will be expecting something much more enjoyable as the indie brothers return to the same performance venue – and you may even be able to still bag yourself a ticket.
Tonight’s gig marks the first time Oasis has played the Wembley Stadium venue since July 2009. The gig came just weeks before Noel and Liam split.
However, a slurred performance took place during the Standing on the Shoulder of Giants tour in 2000. Of course, the brothers are now older and possibly wiser than they were 25 years ago.
Their second performance at Wembley Stadium in July 2000 was being recorded for a live album and television broadcast, but it soon turned out to be a notorious mix-up, with Noel later saying that Liam should “hang his head in shame” over what transpired.
In between songs, Liam Gallagher, the frontman, appeared drunk and was slurring lyrics, ranting about his personal life, and talking about his life at the time.
Noel Gallagher claimed on Radio X that the night was his “low point in Oasis.”
He remarked, “It was a terrible two and a half hours on stage. Lam is able to hang his head shamelessly. It was terrible.
Liam made slurred references to his relationship break up actress Patsy Kensit, at the time.
After three years of marriage, Liam and actress and model Patsy announced their separation in September 2000. The couple shared son Lennon with him, and they both had happier times. Their breakup was finally resolved in London Divorce Court, and Kensit received a divorce decree nisi as a result of Gallagher’s “unreasonable behavior.”
Liam has since admitted he has stopped drinking before performing on stage.
Since that famous Wembley concert, I haven’t drank alcohol on the stage. Remember that one, “It all slowed down a little.” He mentioned on Radio X. Do you understand what I mean when I say that “some people seem to like that kind of thing, but I’ve been doing that lately?” Simply put, it’s a waterman.
However, that uncut footage from 2000 is still widely available online to this day.
The band’s Familiar to Millions album ended up evoking the chaotic performance, and vocals were saved.
