Utilita Bowl and Metro Bank Women’s One-Day Cup final
Hampshire 288-6 (50 overs): Adams 77, Bouchier 66, Kemp 41, Potts 3-47
Lancashire 289-4 (48.3 overs): Lewis 141*, Smale 72, Davies 1-38
By six wickets, Lancashire wins.
Gaby Lewis’ sensational 141 not out of 143 balls helped her team win the One-Day Cup final against Hampshire, winning by six wickets.
With nine balls left, Lancashire fought back to get their target of 289 with Ireland captain Lewis all the way through the innings.
She scored 144 with Seren Smale, who scored 72, before making wise partnerships of 61 with Ellie Threlkeld, the captain, and unbroken 46 with Ailsa Lister to finish the job.
Georgia Adams and Maia Bouchier scored 77 runs in Hampshire’s 66 innings, but the team that advanced to the top of the group stages fell short.
Hampshire had won nine of their previous 14 games to advance to the final, which was held on their home turf, and the eight-team group had won it. Adams had a sparkling 107 not out, which had allowed them to beat Surrey.
When Bouchier and Southby were asked to bat first, the wicketkeeper fell for 35 before making a fine 70 for the first wicket.
When Bouchier tamely holed herself in the middle of Mahika Gaur, she hit the accelerator and had 66 balls to go.
Freya Kemp’s run-a-ball 41 incident caused a brief extra-cover story for her slashed slow left-armer Hannah Jones.
Lancashire was only able to get away with 20 on the board because they were almost six an over in the chase, and a mistake between Lewis and fellow opener Alice Clarke caused Clarke to run out with only 20.
However, Lewis and Smale managed to survive a few close run-out calls before falling to Smale for a good diving catch off Mary Taylor at short mid-wicket.
Lancashire were 183-3 with the required rate at more than seven and a half when Fi Morris was tipped for nine.
Ellie Threlkeld, the captain, gave real life with 32 off 30 balls in a 60-ball partnership with Lewis before falling to Freya Davies.
Lancashire remained favorites as long as Lewis was playing. Before going on the run, she recorded her highest List-A score, completing her century with 121 balls.
With the T20 County Cup victory in May, they also won the unbroken 46 that was scored on just 28 balls for Lancashire.
