Maurizio Sarri, the manager of Lazio, underwent a minor heart operation.

Italian media reported that the former Chelsea boss had been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a heart-beat-related condition.

The 66-year-old is expected to resume his regular duties over the coming days according to the club.

In June 2025, Sarri took over as manager of Lazio.

Before quitting his day job in the early 2000s to concentrate on his managerial career, Sarri began coaching at low-level Italian clubs alongside his work as a banker.

Before leading hometown team Napoli to two second-place finishes in three years, he oversaw Empoli’s promotion to the top of Italy in 2013 and 2014.

He won the Europa League and advanced to the Carabao Cup final with the Blues when he left Chelsea in 2018-19.

After a season in Italy, he won Serie A with Juventus in 2019-20.
