Lando Norris made his Formula 1 debut back in 2019, but 2025 has proven to be his year with the McLaren driver in prime position to win the world championship, cheered on by his proud mum and dad

Lando Norris could clinch his first ever Formula One world championship in Abu Dhabi this weekend. The 26-year-old leads Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 12 points and McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri by 16 as they head to the track – and cheering him on every step of the way are his proud parents.

Adam Norris and Cisca Wauman – who have been together for over 25 years and also share son Oliver and daughters Flo and Cisca – are Lando’s biggest supporters, and will be thrilled to see him finally achieve his F1 dream.

But they are acutely aware of the dangers associated with the thrilling sport. Lando previously revealed the huge impact one tragic moment had on his parents – his father in particular – and how he tried to reassure them he would not meet the same fate.

The incident took place in 2019 when a horrible accident claimed the life of 22-year-old French F2 driver Anthoine Hubert. “My mum is always worried but it threw my dad’s mind quite a bit because he comes to all the races,” said Norris, then a 19-year-old McLaren rookie. “He had to go to the toilet and be sick.

“He can’t watch my onboard footage at a normal race. He has to go somewhere and hide. When it gets to a worse situation, he really can’t take it,” he continued.

“I have to tell him that I’ll be OK but it feels bad saying it. It is what I want to say. I am sure every driver does. And then we have what happened… I am more nervous about reassuring him now. The tragedy is still in my head. Getting back in the car for practice on Friday is when it will hit home.”

Like most F1 racers, Norris began his racing career in karting – an expensive hobby that was predominantly funded by his father, Adam, who boasts a net worth of around £205million. He amassed his wealth after selling his successful pension advice business and has seen further financial success with his investment company, Horatio Investments Ltd.

Adam has previously been listed in the top 20 on the Bristol Rich List, as well as the 501st richest person in the UK. Although he’s no longer in the pensions business, Adam still finds time to run a company as the founder of electric scooter company Pure Electric. Lando is aware that he grew up with a “privileged” lifestyle, which included “having a manager and a trainer since I was 12”. But, the F1 racer said in no way were things handed to him.

“There’s many things that my dad has given to me, or I’ll say, invested in me. But it’s an investment, not a given. I need to pay back that investment and reward him, and use what he’s given me to show that it’s all been useful and not a waste of time,” he said on the High Performance podcast in 2024.
