Due to growing security concerns in the area, the Kwara State Government has ordered the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, to be shut down immediately.
The Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology’s internal memo, dated January 20, 2026, contained the directive.
The letter, which was signed by Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the commissioner for tertiary education, read in part as instructions to “take immediate steps” to direct the College’s management to temporarily close the institution.
Modibbo-Kawu claimed that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s instructions were followed.
The decision, according to the document, was made as a result of the state government’s wider plan to ban all schools in the region’s affected local government area due to rising insecurity surrounding the institution.
