As she approaches the first anniversary of their special day, Location Location star Kirstie Allsopp revealed details of her long-term relationship.
This time last year, Kirstie Allsopp was preparing for her secret wedding to her partner of 21 years, Ben Andersen. The long-term couple finally exchanged vows in January 2024 during an intimate ceremony at Mayfair’s Grosvenor Chapel, a special location close to Kirstie’s heart.
The Location Location Location presenter claimed she was “happily unmarried” to the property tycoon she met in 2004 prior to their big day. After his first marriage to one of Kirstie’s classmates ended, Ben told her he didn’t want to marry again in the beginning of their relationship.
The pair made a wedding proposal on short notice, with Kirstie purchasing her gown just two weeks in advance.
The pair’s two sons, both from his first marriage, and Ben’s older sons, both from his first marriage, performed the roles of ushers on their special day.
Kirstie’s sisters Sofie Fletcher and Natasha Morley, her cousin Jamie Allsopp, a former hedge fund boss, and India Hicks, a fashion designer, were also present.
Noticeably absent from the ceremony, however, was Kirstie’s long-time co-host Phil Spencer, who reportedly couldn’t attend the date with such little notice.
Speaking to Yours Magazine about the secrecy, Kirstie shared: “I think we told the children about the wedding on Christmas Day. Mostly, though, nobody knew until the Monday and then we got married on the Thursday.
She continued, “I have a lot of opinions on our wedding, but it turns out that I wasn’t so crazy about it!”
They simply wore what they had, because it was four o’clock, meaning no one had to take any breaks from work or look after them.
The 54-year-old also revealed that she had skipped the traditional hen do in the lead up to the big day. She continued, “It was fantastic because there was no hen night or anything like that.”
Because it was where her parents and grandparents got married, Kirstie specifically chose Mayfair.
The intimate ceremony, which was reportedly 40 minutes long, included the Beatles’ iconic All You Need Is Love.
Kirstie has previously admitted she didn’t want “the attention of being a bride,” but she has not fully explained why she chose to marry in secret.
She continued, “I don’t like the endless, never-ending self-absorption of “my big day.” Have you ever heard “our big day” so little of the time? “.
While the ceremony was intended to be kept under wraps, Kirstie later shared a photo from the day on Instagram after spotting paparazzi outside.
She wrote, “I share a great deal on here and so appreciate all the kind &, interesting comments, but I felt our wedding should be private, and luckily on the day it was,” in her caption. Unfortunately, it turned out there was a hidden pap, so I’ve since shared a few of our own photos.
