He has won over a legion of fans after never being far from King Charles’ side at some of his most high-profile appearances. Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson has become known as the ‘hunky’ equerry after catching the eye of royal fans while on duty with both the King and Queen Camilla in his trademark kilt.

And now it has emerged he has tied the knot for a second time, months after becoming engaged to PR executive Olivia Lewis. It emerged last year that the soldier, who is from the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, had struck up a romance with Olivia after he split from his first wife several years ago.

And according to the Mail On Sunday, the pair tied the knot just over a week ago in an ‘elegant’ and ‘low-key’ ceremony at St Mary’s Church in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, which was followed by a lunch hosted by the bride’s parents. However, it seems it was shortly back to work after the big day as just two days later, the equerry was spotted in Canada with the King and Queen on their whistlestop visit across the Atlantic.

After dating for a year, the couple was later revealed to be in love with Olivia and that they were “well matched and very happy” at the time. Their engagement was later made public in The Times, with the happy news coming just days after he was promoted to Charles “super equerry.”

Lt Col Thompson will now have a new role, which will allow him to work with both the King and the Queen and be in charge of the monarch’s private affairs. Unfortunately, this will mean he won’t be as visible to the royals as they are in public.

Equerries are drawn from the armed forces and are required to assist the royals both inside their residences and when out and about on public engagements.

He has been on the King’s side since the beginning of his reign, and he was a notable guest at the late Queen’s funeral and the Coronation. He also attracted a new generation of English Channel fans when he joined Charles and Camilla on their 2023 trip to France.

He was also seen sitting behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at a service to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year. Also, he welcomed former Prime Minster Rishi Sunak as he visited Buckingham Palace to see the King.

One fan previously described Jonny Thompson as a “great hunk” on X! While another person expressed their feelings for King Charles’ new royal equerry, adding, “I think I’m getting a wee crush on it.”

Tatler magazine, a society publication, praised his ability to “look as good in a suit as he goes in a kilt,” as well. The King’s equerry wields its distinctive brand of quiet, charming power, according to the statement, “From within the palace walls, at the coronation, or on the opening night of the Berntson Bhattacharjee Gallery in Fitzrovia, where he wore a bunny tie and charmed India Rose James”
