When questioned about joining the proposed new R360 league, England’s world champion full-back Ellie Kildunne said she is “open to anything.”
She stated on BBC Radio 4’s Today program, “I don’t mean to take it, but I want to learn a little bit more about the league to see if that’s an opportunity I want to take.”
The 26-year-old was speaking at the Rugby Football Union’s Rugby Fest weekend event at Bracknell Rugby Club.
The initiative aims to preserve England’s victory in the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Rumors about the future of the club game in men’s and women’s rugby continue to surface as the Red Roses travel to clubs across the nation.
The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday that Kildunne is one of R360’s top targets and that “a significant number” of her England team-mates have already signed pre-contract agreements to join the company.
Harlequins, the Premiership Women’s Rugby team, are currently working with Kildunne to officially kick off the league season on Friday, October 24th against Loughborough Lightening at the Twickenham Stoop.
“I’m just focused on the Harlequins season that I’ve got,” Kildunne said, “I know this week has been crazy, so I can’t look too far ahead,” she continued.
“Royal rugby needs to go in a lot of money, and there will be a lot of changes,” said one player.
We’ve caused something to occur, and it will include debates and talking points.
Kildunne made the decision to use an elevated profile.
Kildunne scored significant tries for England throughout the World Cup, both in the semi-final victory over France and in the victory over Canada.
And since then, her popularity seems to have increased.
When I sped down my car in the street, the binman congratulated me. And the postman was like, “Oh, it’s you,” she said when he knocked on the door.
“I believe that women’s rugby as a whole has a platform that has been increased, and we want to use that platform to encourage younger girls to play the sport and increase the number of people who are interested in women’s rugby,” she said.
