Sabastian Sawe won the men’s race in Kenya, while Rosemary Wanjiru won the women’s. Both women and Kenya won the women’s race.
Sawe won three marathons overall and three more with a time of two hours, two minutes, and 16 seconds.
The 30-year-old ran the majority of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters as he left the field behind and set a sizzling pace at this year’s London Marathon.
After a strong second half, Japan’s Akasaki Akira placed second, almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele placed third.
Sawe remarked, “I did my best, and I’m happy with this performance.”
“I’m so happy for this year. You can’t change the weather, but I did feel better. The year ahead will be better.
When he reached halfway in 1:100:12, Sawe was on the lookout for Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2: 00: 35, but he gradually faded as the record came to an end.
After 25 kilometers, Wanjiru sped out of the lead before completing the race in 2:21:05.
Wanjiru was made third by Ethiopia’s Dera Dida, who finished three seconds behind, while Ethiopia’s Azmera Gebru, who is also an Ethiopian, came in third in 2: 21: 29.
