Kelvin Fletcher is reportedly ‘fuming’ after James Bye announced that he and his wife had purchased a farm, appearing to follow in the former Emmerdale star’s footsteps
Kelvin Fletcher is reportedly “fuming” after claims an EastEnders star “copied” him. Earlier this month, James Bye, who played Martin Fowler on the BBC soap opera until earlier this year, announced that he and his wife, Victoria, had purchased a farm.
The couple announced that they had plans to renovate the farm and acquire new animals. However, they are “terrified” as they “haven’t got a clue” about running a farm.
Taking to social media, the couple said: “Hello you lovely lot…Right, I’ve been promising I’d keep you updated on our next step but life has been a bit messy lately and well, there’s been a lot going on… Bit I guess in a nutshell – we’ve gone and done something a bit mad.
“Yep, we’ve gone and bought a small farm. Yes, a farm. Despite the fact I don’t even own a pair of wellies and we have absolutely no idea what we’re doing. It’s a huge change, it’s terrifying, it’s exciting, and it felt like now or never.” However, despite their excitement, it’s claimed that Kelvin Fletcher has become annoyed by James.
A source claimed that while Kelvin isn’t the first person to buy a farm, the announcement from James, a TV rival, came as a “surprise”. They said: “When you leave your long-term job as a soap actor, it can be hard to find where you fit in, and Kelvin has really made farming his thing.”
Speaking to The Sun, the source continued: “He’s even had a TV show off the back of it, the last thing he will want is someone stepping on his toes. Everyone is telling him it’s OK to feel annoyed by it – and have pointed out that James’ career is starting to look quite similar. But James and his wife Victoria are very determined and have realised people like watching their real lives, so will do what they can to keep interest up – even if it’s completely encroaching on someone else’s turf.”
But while Victoria and James were “terrified” by their huge change, the couple were excited for their future in the agriculture industry. Kelvin, however, appeared to be excited for the pair on social media, commenting: “Amazing! What a chapter you’ve started. You can do this!”
“@kelvin_fletcher cheers mate! can I have you on speed dial?”, laughed James in the comment section of his post with wife Victoria. James’ wife responded: “@kelvin_fletcher Thanks lovely, farm beers soon please,” alongside a laughing emoji.
Fans of James and Victoria went on to suggest that the couple should follow in Kelvin’s footsteps and document their farming life on a TV show. “Kelvin Fletcher did the same. Please make a programme on it. Fletchers Farm is one of my favourite things to watch,” said one.
A second went on to add: “Speak to @kelvin_fletcher, I’m sure he can give you some tips!” Meanwhile, a third penned: “I’m sure @kelvin_fletcher would only be too happy to give you advice!” Victoria even called on Kelvin to head over to their new farm for “a cuppa” and to offer some advice to the couple.
However, a source has claimed that James and Victoria are “switched on” and have been looking at what former soap stars have done and noticed “a few parallels” between them both and Kelvin.
