Tom Parker’s wife Kelsey Parker has come under fire after admitting that she doesn’t use suncream on her kids – and will only use organic sunscreen to protect their skin during the summer
Pregnant Kelsey Parker has been slammed for admitting she doesn’t put suncream on her children claiming it “causes skin cancer”. The mum-of-two – married to The Wanted’s Tom Parker who died in 2022 – made the shock confession in the latest episode of her Mum’s The Word! podcast with pal Georgia Jones.
When Georgia, 38, asked for advice on how to apply suncream on her son without causing a tantrum, Kelsey said she prefers to keep her children out of the sun instead of putting SPF on them. She said: “It’s cause he knows, Georg. It’s bad for you – that sunscreen.”
Kelsey, who is now expecting her first baby with boyfriend Will Lindsay, added: “My kids do not wear suncream. The only thing that I may put on them is an organic suncream. My kids, we went on holiday, I never put suncream on them and they do not burn. But you’ve been putting suncream on probably since birth.”
The 34-year-old even claimed that “suncream is so bad” and “we never used to wear suncream, suncream causes skin cancer”.
Georgia, who is married to McFly star Danny Jones, said that her son would look like a tomato if she didn’t put suncream on him. Kelsey replied: “Just keep him out of the sun.
“I have got an organic, made out of beeswax, really no bad stuff in it suncream that when you put on, it doesn’t absorb into your skin. You look white when you put it on because it’s not got c*ap in it. It’s not c*ap filled with all that stuff.”
Shocked Georgia said: “I just wasn’t expecting this was they way it was going to go. I thought you was just going to give me advice on how to do it.”
Kelsey has since come under fire online from listeners who slammed her for spreading “dangerous information,” as reported by NeedToKnow.
Amy said: “This is really dangerous spreading this information. Please research.” Katie added: “This is insane and so unsafe. It’s so damaging, burning doesn’t indicate sun damage, it can literally kill them. Wow.”
Nina said: “Really dangerous advice.” Another added: “Just irresponsible to be honest.” While someone else agreed: “As someone who had lost family members to skin cancer this is such dangerous advice.”
However, one person agreed with Kelsey as they said: “She’s absolutely right. The less ingredients the better.”
Kelsey had two children – Aurelia, five, and Bodhi, four – with Tom, who was diagnosed with terminal glioblastoma in 2020 and died from the disease in March 2022 at the age of 33.
Glioblastoma is a type of cancer starting with a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord. She is now expecting a baby with Will after finding love again.
