A representative for the family told PEOPLE in a statement that he had been diagnosed with cancer over three years ago. They said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.

In the wake of his death, Kelly’s co-star on The Voice, Carson Daly, shared an update on the ‘terrible situation’. “It’s been tough,” Carson told Us Weekly. “We all knew Brandon well, and we are a family.”
