Kebbi Communities Cry Out Over Violence, Sue Mining Firm

A group of Kebbi State’s Warra District residents and community leaders have lodged a direct criminal complaint against ElTahdam Exploration Limited and its director of operations Abdulhakeem Nuhu over allegations of criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, and inciting disturbance.

The defendants are accused of violating Sections 60 (2), 76, and 79 (1) of the Kebbi State Penal Code Law, 2021, in a complaint filed under Section 105 (3) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (2021) of Kebbi State and the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

The complaint was brought by 27 people, including village leaders, religious leaders, and concerned residents from the Warra District’s Libata, Kabirba, and Kwanga communities.

The complainants allege that ElTahdam Exploration Limited’s representatives, under the direction of Mr. Nuhu, entered their communities without proper consultation, involvement, or consent in 2024. Apparently, local residents erupted in unrest and tension because of the company’s activities and presence.

A team of attorneys made up the case, including Y. T. I. Mukoshy, B. Aminu, and B. On behalf of the members of the community who were affected, A. Idris Esq. They want the company’s director to be summoned to court.

Further, the court filing adds that concerns about the possibility of violent clashes have been raised by concerns about how the defendants’ actions have heightened anxiety and confusion, particularly among the youth.

The filing urged urgent court intervention, warning that “the disciplined members of the communities have now started responding and that the chances of physical conflict between the landowners’ ignorant children and the general public are growing.”

The Chief Magistrate Court I has granted an interim injunction to prevent Abdulhakeem Nuhu and ElTahdam Exploration Limited from settling the dispute in the Warra District.

The defendants were noticeably absent during the most recent court hearing. In order to advance justice, the complainants’ lawyer requested an adjournment and a prorogation of the current restraining order, which was first issued on August 6, 2025.

The court granted the request and confirmed that the interim injunction, which would preserve the status quo and stop disruption, will continue in effect until September 16, 2025.
