The 40, 000 goat rearing initiative program, which is intended to position the state as a leading hub for livestock production, has been delayed by the governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda.
The programme which cost ₦5.7 billion, is targeting women’s economic empowerment and was designed to empower local farmers, especially women groups, by providing them with the resources, training, and support they need to rear goats successfully.
The significant role women play in promoting societal and economic growth was the focus of this initiative, which was carried out by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Level Committees.
The program, which was held in Dan-Nakola town in the state’s Daura Local Government Area, included important topics like sustainable farming practices, livestock nutrition, and health management.

The initiative also includes funding for the construction of infrastructure and funding for the selection of 10 large-scale farmers from each of the 361 political wards.
Additionally, one large-scale farmer will receive 50 heads of goats for each recipient of the women group, along with four heads of goats made up of one male and three females.
In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. The empowerment program was billed by Hadiza Yar’adua and Yusuf Jibia, the governor’s special adviser to livestock and grazing reserves, as a pricey and deliberate effort to improve the country’s economic security and livelihood.
Governor Radda announced plans to set up a goat farm in the Katsina Senatorial Zone in order to improve genetic diversity, high milk production, and manure because beneficiaries are expected to repay in kind by returning an equal number of animals within a specified time.
