The bold approach Kathy Ryan has taken to sentimental holiday ads is as out-there as you might expect from the straight-talking Canadian comic.

Christmas ads from the likes of John Lewis and Sainsbury’s normally make viewers laugh out loud, or grab a tissue or two. But it’s not the case for funnywoman Katherine Ryan, 42, who in October welcomed daughter Holland Juliette into the world.

The star of The Duchess series reveals in the Christmas special of comedy game show Out of Order that she feels quite superior to people who come over all emotional at schmaltzy adverts this time of year.

As guest Josh Widdcombe asks the mum-of-four: “You’re not crying at an advert, are you?” she responds hilariously: “No, I’m not like the rest of the scum – who watch those adverts and cry. Every Christmas, it reminds me that I’m better than everyone else”, to laughs all round from her taken aback co-stars.

The actress, who has been married to her childhood sweetheart Bobby Koostra since 2019, said: “Moms are very busy at Christmas, organising absolutely everything.

“Now that I have a husband, I saw the Snowman,” in which Frosty went outside before passing away. And I thought, “Yes,” That, in my opinion, serves more as a kink than a hopeful for the future.

And Katherine clearly goes all out with her own brood when it comes to decorating her home for Christmas, as she once remarked, “Our tree was so big last year we had to get David Attenborough’s permission to throw it out… “

Last month, Katherine shared what Christmas with her new baby will look like as she appeared at the premiere for her new Sky film Tinsel Town – a Christmas comedy-drama about a struggling actress finding love in Yorkshire, alongside Rebel Wilson and Kiefer Sutherland,.

The star, who recently confessed to some ‘serious’ cosmetic surgery after baby number four, revealed she’s actually the opposite of Scrooge in real-life. “The oldest is 16, and the youngest will be six weeks tomorrow. So, we really have to spread ourselves thin if we want to please everyone.

“I really just exhaust everyone all Christmas,” according to tradition. In a hotel in London, we have a fancy Christmas lunch. The Royal Albert Hall hosts the carols. I travel to Grottos and Christmas trains.

Hosted by Rosie Jones, Out Of Order sees two teams of comedians compete in front of a studio audience to place members of the public in the correct order in a series of revealing categories such as, ‘Who earns the most?’ and ‘Who’s had the most one night stands?’.

This year’s Christmas Special promises the usual festive chaos, as two teams led by Katherine and Loose Woman Judi Love judge members of the public, and each other, with guests including Josh Widdicombe and Jon Richardson.

On Comedy Central, the Out of Order Christmas Special airs at 9 p.m. on Monday December 22.
