Kate and Pippa Middleton, the Princess of Wales’ brother, are the only ones who can remember how incredible support he received during his most difficult times.

To the nation, she is an icon, a figurehead, a future Queen. But to James Middleton, she is simply his big sister Kate. In a rare interview, the 38-year-old has revealed how the Princess of Wales has always been there for him, despite her own busy life.

He explains how Pippa, 41, and Kate, 43, helped him navigate his darkest moments. He said, “I’m incredibly fortunate to have my two sisters as friends as well as siblings.”

They have always been there when I needed them, and they have seen me at my best and worst.

Sibling love is a unique thing, you can’t choose your siblings, it can be challenging, and it requires effort, but when it is strong, I think it’s one of the strongest bonds there is.

And James asserts that Kate is a sensitive, strong, and emotionally intelligent woman who must maintain the royal image.

James credits the strong women in his life, including his 70-year-old mother Carole, Pippa, and Kate, Pippa, for helping him through a mental health crisis in 2017 that left him with the idea of ending his life.

They’ve always been sensitive, expressive, and in tune with the people around them, and having them around me, even if I didn’t realize it at the time, made a big difference, he says.

Looking back, I believe it gave me the opportunity to feel those feelings more deeply and to identify those emotions when they did occur.

“I don’t mean I always found it simple,” she continued. I had a hard time expressing how I was feeling when I was at my lowest, like many men.

However, having strong women who led with compassion and honesty around me helped me realize that vulnerability was more than just weakness. It was strength.

“It probably helped me get ready for open communication later, whether it was during therapy, writing the book, or just in open conversations with the people I love.” I’m incredibly appreciative of that.

James recalls happy days growing up in Berkshire with business owner Carole and their father Michael, 75, a former British Airways manager.

Kate married Prince William in 2011 and is now a devoted mother to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. She has shown plenty of resilience herself, having announced in March last year that she was in the early stages of cancer treatment.

She has since resumed public events and is now in recovery after receiving treatment in September.

James claims that Ella gave him a reason to get up, go outside, and care despite the fact that she had saved him from the women in his life. In James’ memoir, Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, Ella’s life is celebrated.

After learning that he and Alizee were expecting their first child, Inigigo, who was 20 months old, shortly after Ella passed away in early 2023, James, who married French financial analyst Alizee Thevenet in September of that year, made the decision to write his book.

He states in his acceptance speech that “grace is something you learn to embrace rather than something you can get over.” It enlarges within you.

It made a huge difference between Ella’s legacy and her life. I also hoped that someone else going through a grieving experience might feel less alone. The two emotions are woven together.
