After nearly four years of ill health complications, Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway lost her husband Derek Draper in 2024.

Kate Garraway has opened up about the difficulties of single parenting following the death of her husband, Derek Draper. The Good Morning Britain host, 57, who shares daughter Darcey, 19, and son William, 15, admitted that life without her partner has been incredibly tough, describing parenting alone as the most challenging aspect of grief.

Kate described her struggles in a letter to Daily Mail Weekend Magazine, saying, “This is the hardest part of grieving.” I constantly wonder, “Derek, where are you? ” She recalled how they had always shared responsibilities for parenting, which they did naturally without dictating specific roles.

Nearly four years after battling complications from Covid-19, Derek sadly passed away on January 3, 2024, at the age of 56. Kate shared an emotional tribute to him shortly after his passing that showed how much she had remained close by his side during his final moments.

She wrote in a touching post, “It breaks my heart to learn that my wonderful husband Derek has passed away.” I held his hand throughout those final hours while he spent his final days surrounded by his family.

Kate also discussed the significant financial strain Derek’s caregivers faced as the anniversary of his passing approached. She made it clear during a discussion on Good Morning Britain that she was incredibly defrauded by the cost of his round-the-clock care.

She recalled the ordeal, saying, “We had two unresolved appeals for funding at the time of his passing, but they just kept getting delayed. Despite having a good job, I was able to pay for everything on my own. I now have a lot of debt that is beyond my control. How are other families supposed to cope with me if I’m in this situation? “

Wes Streeting, the health secretary who was present for the discussion, responded to her concerns and expressed his support, stating, “So many people watching will relate to your experience. People feel a strong connection to your journey because you are not just a well-known face on television.

It comes as Kate has joined the cast of Celebrity Traitors, the BBC’s first celebrity edition of the popular reality series. The star is set to appear alongside Stephen Fry, 67, and former England rugby player Joe Marler, 34, at Ardross Castle in Scotland.

Kate has previously competed in I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here! in 2019, where she placed fourth overall.
