Kate Ferdinand has described her feelings in a ‘December hangover’ as she tries to settle into a new life in Dubai almost six months after quitting the UK

Kate Ferdinand has confessed the struggles she is facing after her family relocated to Dubai. The reality TV star and her former footballer husband Rio Ferdinand made the switch to Dubai from the UK last August with their kids, but it hasn’t all been straight forward.

Kate, 34, told her Instagram followers she isn’t “feeling herself” and admitted she felt like she had an “emotional hangover”. She candidly said: “So I have a December hangover, not alcohol but an emotional December hangover and I’ve told whether to talk to you guys about this but I don’t feel like I’m being myself.

“I’m not feeling myself, I don’t want to do my usual activities and I feel highly emotional. I don’t have that kickstart January feeling like I normally do.”

She went on: “I mean I’ve been thinking about it and as parents in December we want to get everything right for our children, we’re busy and it’s like the overwhelm of December, sorting Christmas and working and doing everything. And then we see family that we really miss and that feeling of missing them, sometimes we have to see family we don’t really like and fit back into roles we had as children which comes with an emotional hangover as well.

“And then on January first we are expected to be a new woman, new me, ready to go and actually sometimes it does take a bit of time and it’s not realistic and I don’t feel like that and I’m one of those people up in the gym early and my body is telling me no.”

She admitted to feeling the pressure to go to the gym due to fatigue but confessed she has been emotional. However, she added she thinks it is “okay to not be okay”.

Kate continued: “I feel the pressure in the industry and today I was going to post my workout but the truth is I went to do the workout and I haven’t got the energy and my body is coming to a halt and I’m so fatigued and can’t get through it.

“I want to be honest with you guys and I think a lot of people are going through it and I don’t think it’s very openly spoken about on socials so this is just a reminder that not everyone is good all the time and sometimes it’s when you least expect it.”

And she says this month is going to be one for her to listen to her body and rest rather than push herself. Kate told her followers that if they are feeling the same way it doesn’t have to be a reset month before saying she hopes they are all ok.

Kate and Rio and their blended family moved to Dubai almost six months ago. The family, which includes Cree, four, two-year-old Shae, 19-year-old Lorenz, 17-year-old Tate 17, and Tia, 14, moved away from their London lifestyle.

They are just a few of a host of celebrities to have quit the UK for the sunny climate. Others include Naomi Campbell, who moved in 2024 to set up a new business.
