Kate Cassidy dated former One Direction star Liam Payne from 2022 until his tragic death in October 2024. This Christmas, she has shared a happy memory of her time with him.
Liam Payne’s former girlfriend Kate Cassidy has shared unseen footage of the late One Direction star – and shared a heartbreaking update on social media. The young couple dated for two years until Liam’s tragic death at the age of 31 in October 2024.
In the run up to Christmas, Kate, 26, reminisced about the singer as she shared some of her favourite festive-linked memories of him. Taking to TikTok, the model recalled that Liam would order gingerbread men around Christmas time which they would then enjoy together.
Sharing footage of herself in a kitchen, Kate told viewers: “He’d always get so many gingerbread cookies and they were always so weird looking, with one eye up high and another down by it’s leg.” And she went on to share previously unseen footage of them enjoying the cookies together.

The video clip showed Kate and Liam in bed, with the singer branding the gingerbread biscuits as “The best ever.” Her footage also showed “the men in question” as a gingerbread man was held up to the camera. The haphazardly cut cookies showed a smiling face with lopsided eyes on the biscuit design, and large bright-coloured sweets acting as buttons in the middle.
On Sunday, Kate took to Instagram to share a short video clip of herself watching the sun setting on the horizon while beside the ocean. Joined by her dog, the model gazed at the light before bending down to stroke and fuss over her pet.
In a poignant, and heartbreaking, message, she wrote a caption declaring: “God said, ‘This year I made you strong, next year I am going to make you happy.'” She added a crossed finger emoji to the post.
Recently, Kate opened up to followers on social media to admit she was still struggling with her grief following Liam’s shock death. The singer fell from the third-floor balcony of a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tests later showed he was intoxicated when he fell from the balcony to his death.
Kate has explained that any future partners will have to accept the fact that she will forever love the For You singer. She said in a TikTok video: “I want to make something clear. Whoever I end up with in my future will have to accept the fact I will always love Liam.
“I will always talk about Liam I will always laugh about Liam, I will always cry about Liam.” She continued: “Let me tell you something, Liam Payne was my boyfriend. He wasn’t just this famous figure to me. It hurts so bad because I am just criticised all the time for speaking about my boyfriend that passed away, the person that I loved and still do love.”
She went on: “I would never settle for anyone in this lifetime who did not feel comfortable enough with me speaking about Liam. Liam was a very big part of my life. He was my best friend, somebody I really thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with and, obviously, I know one day I’m going to have to move on. I want to get married one day. I want to have kids.”
She added: “When a person dies, they die twice, once when they actually die and the second time when you stop speaking about them. I’m not going to have Liam die twice on me. I will love him forever.”
Many of Kate’s followers have taken to comment sections of her posts to offer their support and encouragement. One responded to her Instagram sunset post to write: “We are always standing behind you Kate.” And another penned: “Grief is not linear. It’s definitely ok to still feel terribly sad at times. There will also be days where you do feel strong and happy. Take both as they come. Nobody grieves in the same way. Sending you so much love.”
Liam’s family have also been grieving, with his sister, Ruth Gibbins, recently explaining she felt distressed upon learning his former school is to be torn down. She took to social media to explain that she felt like his memory was being dismantled too.
She wrote: “Hearing part of our senior school is being knocked down and having such clear memories of Liam waiting by my locker to ask for money off me all the time, feels like all of him is being removed from the planet, all the places we’ve been are changing and he’s not here to change with him.”
