Kate Beckinsale discusses the overwhelming loss of her mother, Judy Loe, by posting heartfelt tribute photos to her social media account this week.
Kate Beckinsale has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her mother, Judy Loe, describing her grief as “paralysing” and saying she still feels “blindsided” by her death.
Judy died in July at the age of 78 following a battle with stage four cancer. Kate revealed that her mother died in her arms on July 15 after what she called “immeasurable suffering.”
The 52-year-old Underworld star took to Instagram to post poignant images and emotional tributes from Judy’s funeral, which took place at Chiswick House in London over the weekend. Kate described it as a “celebration of life,” just as her mother had requested, reflecting on the day.
Kate continued, revealing that her late mother “didn’t want anyone to wear black.” It is absurd and absurd that you were required to attend a funeral. She continued, “You are the biggest lover of life, the most vital, the most joyful,” adding, “Your only mandate over the years was that no one was wearing black, so no one did.”
The occasion featured both dancing and music, as well as friends, family, and former co-stars’ moving tributes. She attended with her daughter Lily, 26, and her ex-partner Michael Sheen, who also showed support for them. During the service, Lily and Michael embraced in a heartfelt photo.
Kate admitted in her post that she still feels the urge to call her mother when she forgets she’s gone. I keep reaching for my phone in the morning to text you, only to discover that I won’t receive a response, she wrote.
She continued to describe how she was “blinded” and “devastated” by her loss. She said, “I will never get over the cement lump in my stomach that I have instead of you.” Hopefully, I’ll learn how to carry it more effectively and securely than I am currently doing.
“At this time, I am so blindsided and devastated that I can’t be on my own, but I can tell from your funeral that the relationships you’ve nurtured so carefully over the years are there for me, and that’s another aspect of your generosity that will live on.”
She continued, noting that Judy’s funeral became a moving tribute to her spirit despite being heart wrenching.
From the age of 3 until the mid-80s, she said, “Everyone danced,” including Lily’s school friends, my school friends, and myself. You still inspire, quietly, and generously, which is amazing. “.
Kate and her mother have previously discussed how close a relationship they shared. She described Judy as “the compass of my life, the love of my life, and my dearest friend” in a previous post.
Judy’s passing comes less than two years after the passing of Roy Battersby, Kate’s stepfather, who died in 2024 from a stroke while battling cancer.
When Kate was just five years old, Richard Beckinsale, the actor who also played her father, passed away. At the age of 31, he suffered a heart attack that caused him to pass away suddenly in 1979. Kate is still reeling from losing both her father and her mother.
Despite the immense suffering, the movie star’s tribute to her mother came to an end with a thank-you note for the love her mother left behind. You belong to me, “. You are a part of me. You are present in my heart, whether or not it is broken. Mama, I adore you so much.
