Spanish singer Julio Iglesias has spoken out for the first time after he was accused of sexually abusing two women, with one claiming she was forced into having sex with him

Julio Iglesias has broken his silence following accusations of sexual assault. The Spanish singer, 82, has been hit with claims that he abused two women, including acts of physical and verbal abuse.

Another woman claimed she was forced to have sex with him, while one also claimed that she had been subjected to insults and humiliation, as well as inappropriate touching. Earlier this week, Spain’s judiciary, the Audiencia Nacional, confirmed that a criminal investigation had been launched.

Now, the musician has said the allegations are “false” and have caused him “great sadness”. In a statement shared on Instagram to his 633,000 followers, he said: “It is with deep regret that I respond to the accusations made by two individuals who previously worked in my home.

“I deny having abused, coerced, or disrespected any woman. These accusations are completely false and cause me great sadness. I have never felt such malice, but I still have the strength to let people know the whole truth and defend my dignity in the face of such a great injustice.

“I cannot forget the many, many dear people who have sent me messages of affection and loyalty; I have found great comfort in them.” One alleged victim, using the pseudonym Rebeca to protect her identity, said: “I felt like an object, like a slave.” A second woman, Laura, whose name is not her real one, claimed that the musician kissed her mouth and touched her breasts without consent.

Speaking to eldiario.es, she said: “We were on the beach and he came up to me and touched my nipples.” She went on to claim that a similar incident took place at the pool of his villa in Punta Cana.

Spanish media have reported that a woman identified as a manager of one of Julio’s homes said the allegations were “nonsense”.

She told the publication that she only had “gratitude, admiration, and respect for the great artist and human being that he is,” adding that he was a “humble, generous, great gentleman and very respectful to all women.”

Spanish prosecutors have since confirmed they are investigating a formal complaint made against the musician. In a statement, the Aduiencia Nacional said: “In view of the news reports published today concerning Julio Iglesias and given the interest shown by the media, I would like to inform you that a complaint was filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Audiencia Nacional on 5 January 2026.

“Preliminary criminal investigation proceedings have been initiated, which, as you know, are confidential. Given the nature of the allegations and reiterating the confidential (secret) nature of the Public Prosecutor’s investigation, and in the interests of protecting the alleged victims, it is not appropriate to provide further information.”

Mr Iglesias found fame in the UK when his track Begin the Beguine, topped the charts in 1981. Across the globe, he has sold over 300 million records.
